Aerial Views of Mabul Water Bungalows and Underwater Sipadan
A guest-shot drone and underwater video of Mabul Water Bungalows, Sipadan-Mabul Resort, and the reefs at Sipadan Island.
Cols and Ken from Australia were recently at Mabul Island and produced this beautiful video of their holiday. The video features aerial views of Mabul Water Bungalows, Sipadan Mabul Resort and underwater footage at Sipadan Island.

It is amazing how technology has enabled talented individuals to be able to create amazing videos like this one.

The footage was taken from a GoPro 3 Black flown from a DJI Phantom quadcopter. A big thank you to Cols for sharing.
From the air, the layout of the two neighbouring resorts becomes obvious in a way it never is from the water. Mabul Water Bungalows sits on stilts off the southern shore, its small cluster of bungalows and suites built to keep the resort intimate rather than sprawling. Sipadan-Mabul Resort, its sister property along the same stretch of shore, runs a larger operation with a fleet of boats lined up along the jetty each morning before the first dive run. Both resorts sit close enough to the edge of the continental shelf that the water changes colour within sight of the jetty, from the pale shallows around the bungalows to the deep blue where the reef drops away.
Underwater, the footage from Sipadan tells a different story: walls dropping into open water, schools of fish holding position against the current, and the kind of visibility that drone footage can only hint at from above. Between the two, it's a fair preview of what a week based on Mabul actually looks like: a few permit days at Sipadan bracketed by a lot of easy, unhurried diving and boat rides right outside your room.
